So, if you can do this well, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to optimize a website and make it better than it currently is. The biggest problem that usually happens is that when someone wants to rank for a very competitive keywords and wants results asap. In that case its virtually impossible to do SEO as it might take a while.

What I currently specialize in is SEO Expert services for local businesses. This way local businesses wouldnt have to pay so much for their ads. Website’s presence in the search engines is currently more powerful than yellow pages ads which cost a lot more then my SEO services.

First of all, the hosting has to be PHP based hosting which is normally called Linux hosting. Not everyone understands this, but Windows hosting does not support PHP and mySQL by detault.

It makes it a lot easier, if you host your wordpress blog on a hosting with cPanel. CPanel allow you to install and update blogs very easy using their Fantastico feature.

You will find it very complicated installing wordpress without Fantastico, unless you are comfortable setting up MySQL databases.

I personally use Hostgator to host all my websites and wordpress blogs. However there are many other cPanel based hosting providers such as BlueHost and Hostmonster

Would you recommend using Wordpress or Blogger for a blog? Which is better? Why?

Well, first of all it really depends what you are trying to achieve. If you are just trying to run an online diary for yourself, either one is good, however if you are pursuing specific goal, then I would recommend you one of them.

For example, if you are trying to get a blog to rank in the search engines, get many readers and make money online I would definitely recommend Wordpress. Wordpress has SEO ready structure and allows you to insert various plugins that can help you rank in the search engines and make your blog function the way you want it. On the other hand, Blogger is much simpler platform and is not so flexible, however easy to deal with.

In terms of ranking on search engines, you can really get both platforms to work, its all mainly to do with incoming links. The social bookmarking plugins in wordpress automate the process of getting backlinks to your posts/pages which really makes big difference.

I must warn you however, wordpress requires a lot of customization in order for it to work efficiently. If you are not familiar with web design and CSS I would recommend you getting someone setting wordpress for you.

The key to building a list is quite simple. First of all, you are trying to gain your list’s trust by giving some advice or providing something free that can be useful to the subscriber. This can go on for a week or two. During this period you will see if anyone unsubscribes from your list (basically means they are not interested) and you will end up with a list of people who are keen on the topic of your emails. This would be the moment when you can start offering products to them.

The best way to offer products to people would be via product reviews. This way you are not selling anything to them, but showing comparisons between different products which usually has a pretty good impact. Just think about what your subscribers are searching for and do the searching for them, add your affiliate links and your review will succeed.

The software that I personally use is called Aweber and it costs USD$19.95 per month. It allows you to build lists as well as setup followup autoresponders and do broadcast emails. Aweber has also recently intergrated with Twitter and RSS (your blog’s) which does miracles. If you havent tried it yet, I strongly recommend  you trying it by using the FREE test drive offer they have at the bottom of their main page.

I personally love the followup emails. You get to setup the whole lot of emails straight away and set intervals between those emails. Once you have done this, you can forget about it.

Well, throughout my experience I have found that the easiest way to make some money is with using Wordpress Blogs and monetizing via AdSense. You will not be making millions, but a few dollars a day will bring a smile to a face of someone who just tried to make money online.

There are many ways to make money at home, however online marketing seems to be the way to go.

You dont necessary need to be doing everything for yourself as t here are websites where people offer their professional services. Those websites are the ones like rentacoder.com and elance.com. Or you can be offering your own services through those websites as there is quite a bit of work being offered there that you might be an expert in.

I, however prefer to use blogs to make money at home.

With affiliate marketing, there are number of ways you can promote products. The key is to have products being relevant to what your blog/forum is about. The most effective is writing product reviews and mentioning products in posts. The best places to find affiliate products in my opinion are Commission Junction and Clickbank. Clickbank in particular gives you a “marketplace”, which shows you all the products that you can promote with stats of how much you will earn from sale and how many people have sold a particular product in a period of time (gravity).

Publisher ads (eg. Google AdSense) are usually the backend of pay per click services like Google Adwords can be a good way to monetize blog/forum, however you really need quite a lot of visitors and a good click through rate (number of times ads are clicked) to monetize. The key is to have the ads positioned properly and have rich text content. It’s the content that triggers specific ads by the words that make up that text.

Banner ads are good alternative to AdSense, however it is a little hard to monitor them. There are wordpress plugins which allow you to rent spaces on your blog (paid services), however alternatively you can manually monitor the banners.

Selling links is a good way to make money if your blog has a good “page rank” and has reasonable amount of visitors on your website. Good page rank (PR) is anything above 3 and reasonable number of visitors on your website is about 150-200 people per day. The best system that I found to sell links is called Text Link Ads which gives you a wordpress plugin which is simple to install. I have 2 blogs with PR3 and PR2 which make me about USD$100 per month.

There are many other ways to monetize your blog/forum, however in my experience reselling other people’s products via affiliate links is the most profitable way. Some of the websites at Clickbank give you all the banners and promotional text, which is very easy to apply.

Finally, it is vital to have an optin box on your blog/forum, so that people can sign up for your newsletter or updates. This is a really powerful tool that you can use for affiliate marketing. I will let you know more about it in my next post.

First of all, title tag in HTML is probably the most important tag. The reason for it being is that the keywords in the title tag play a vital role for onsite search engine optimization. Secondly, when your web pages get indexed by the search engines, the listing in the search engines will appear with your title tag in its own title.

Ideally your title tag should contact 3-5 keywords that you are trying to optimize for. I normally use “-” sign to separate them and this worked quite well for my sites so far for the SEO.

Unfortunately, the service didn’t work out like we had hoped.  (It happens.)

I want to say “Thank You” to all of the great bloggers that at least gave BlogRush a test to see if it would work for them.  We sincerely appreciate you giving the service a try.We have received several offers & inquiries about acquiring BlogRush, but we are choosing not to go that route.  While many might think this is crazy, we truly feel it’s the ‘right’ thing to do for our users.  Believe it or not, it’s not always about the money.  In fact, BlogRush will have lost a small fortune when it’s all said and done, and it was by choice.

There were many things we could have done to monetize the service but we wanted to make sure it was going to benefit our users first.

Last but not least I want to say that I hope the failure of this service doesn’t in any way discourage other entrepreneurs from coming up with crazy ideas at 4AM (like I did with this one) and from “going for it” to just try and see if something will work.

Without trying there can be no success.  And as we all know, ideas are worthless without action. The Web wouldn’t be what it is today without entrepreneurs trying all sorts of crazy ideas.

I’ve decided to investigate this and created my own google adwords campaign for one product on Clickbank.

Here is a screenshot of my earnings for the last couple of weeks

I basically picked a product which had a commission of at least $30 and promoted via a blog which was specifically setup for the product. My average conversion rate was around 1% which happened to be profitable. I used search and content network in order to drive traffic to the site. My ad groups were all setup to fit particular keywords, so were the ads inside them.

So, its still definitely possible to make money with affiliate marketing using adwords. I am currently documenting the process into an ebook and it will be out soon.

I have bought a new domain name and setup a blog with information regarding my product, then posted a sales letter with order buttons and started marketing to this post via Google AdWords.

I am currently paying $0.10 per click on search network and $0.04 per click on content network. The quality score is 7/10 and 8/10 for most of the keywords. Also most of the keywords also have “Great” quality score, whereas before they were only “OK”.

So this seems to avoid Google Slap and provide awesome quality score.

I am eager to hear your comments on this technique.

When running an AdWords campaign search network should definitely be turned on. The main reason for it is that it is much more targeted then content network. The downside however is that it costs more.

When it comes to search network, I would not recommend it unless your product is at least $30 in price as it has a very low conversion rate. The rule of thumb is to have content bids enabled at low price. I have mine at about $0.04 per click. This way you are going to get about 1% percent conversion rate, whereas search network can be between 1% and 5%.

According to my previous post, it really works. Basically what you need is a separate page on the keyword that you are after as well as have it in title on your main page and separate keyword page. This way I now dominate 2 top spots in Google for SEO Expert Australia and have pushed out the last person on the first page to the second page.

So, if you are getting some traffic from Google using Search Engine Optimization, try expanding on your ranking.

Theoretically, what you need is a separate page within your website to have the title and filename of the keyword that you are trying to dominate as well as some content regarding the keyword.

So, hopefully the next time my website is crawled I should dominate the first 2 lines for SEO Expert Australia. I am also 7th for the search SEO Expert.

Its best to use Google AdWords to test out the best keywords and ads to see what really works for your marketing campaign. Once its all tested out, you can use the same keywords and description to optimize your website for. Even though you might not reach top positions straight away, but at least what you are ranking for definitely sells.

Besides this, your description comes up in Google and works like your ad when shows up if setup correctly.

Bandwidth is the amount of traffic your web hosting is allowed to transfer. If someone is downloading or uploading 20MB file from your website that’s 20MB of your bandwidth gone. Every time someone will be viewing your website and images, the size of those files loaded will be subtracted from your bandwidth limit. It is important to have a large amount of bandwidth with your web hosting as they normally would suspend your account once your bandwidth is exceeded.

Web space is the amount of space you get on your web hosting to store the files. You don’t really need too much of it, unless you are planning to store something big.

Uptime is the statistical percentage of your web hosting server being up. Its best if the number is as close to 100% as possible.

Support is one of the most important aspects of your hosting. Last thing you would want is for your website to stop working and you have no one to contact. I find it critical to have a company with constant support (24/7).

When picking hosting, make sure you pick the right platform for your website. There are generally two types of platforms, Windows based hosting and Linux based hosting. Each one of them is designed to support applications for either of the platforms, so make sure what you are running is going to work with the hosting you are after.

If you are running a number of websites that are pretty similar in their structure, it might be logical to get a hosting with multiple domains. This basically means that you are allowed to host as many websites on one hosting as you wish. The default allows you to host only one.

Finally, the cost of the hosting should be reasonable. I still meet people who are paying hundreds of dollars for their hosting, which has been setup 10 years ago. You should be paying $10-$15 for your hosting per month, considering that it has everything mentioned above.

My personal experience showed me not to rely on small hosting companies, but deal with the big ones instead, as they provide better support. This is crucial for me as I run hundreds of websites at the same time and cannot afford for them to be down.

The hosting that I would recommend to you is Hostgator. It is a large company that provides a wide range of plans. I personally prefer their Baby Croc plan which gives you unlimited bandwidth, unlimited web space, unlimited number of domains, great support, cPanel platform and its all for $9.95 per month or $7.95 per month if you pay for one year. I have been using their services for over 3 years and they have been great.
